The City of College Park needed to design and construct a new pathway and gateway bridge to connect the Georgia International Convention Center and People Mover (train from airport to rental car facility) to downtown College Park.
The project was funded through a $250,000 grant from the Atlanta Regional Commission Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) and the City of College Park. The City received additional funding via a $669,533 grant from the Atlanta Regional Commission TAP and the City of College Park for preliminary and final design.
The City requested a fast-track process for the Concept Phase of this project. Concept design, stakeholder meetings, and concept report approval by GDOT were completed in under six months, so that the City could apply for additional engineering funding through the ARC.
The Stratus team prepared engineering documents for construction of this new 1.08-mile pedestrian bridge and trail. Completion and construction are scheduled for FY 2021. Design follows the GDOT PDP process.
The project submitted for construction funding in the fall of 2019. Full funding at construction has recently been obtained to cover 80% of the $14.5 million project.
