Fort Lauderdale Aquatic Center

“The Design Criteria Package for Fort Lauderdale Aquatic Complex improvements involved an $47 million budget. Improvements included removal of the existing Main Competition Pool, and replacement with an expanded and fully FINA-compliant [Fédération Internationale de Natation] pool with two movable stainless bulkheads. In addition to competitive swimming events, the main pool is also designed to accommodate water polo and artistic swimming. The existing Diving Well and underground observation room was removed and replaced with a new fully FINA-compliant dive well with a spectacular 27-meter dive tower that includes high dive platform levels at 15M, 20M, 24M, 27M. In addition, there are 1M, 3M, 5M, 7.5M, 10M of five platform levels and one-meter and three-meter springboards. The 27M platform is now the highest dive tower in the Western Hemisphere.

Metal bleachers for 550+/- spectators will be added to the west side of the Diving Pool. The existing Divers Spa was replaced with a new larger spa. Other improvements included new surfacing and gutters for the existing Training Pool; new surfacing for the existing Instructional Pool; and raising the pool deck to allow for increased pool depth competition levels. A new grandstand building and bleachers will replace the existing north side facility, providing a fabric shade canopy, new restrooms, concessions, ticket office, and metal bleachers for 1500+/- spectators.”
