Joseph E. Boone Boulevard Capacity Relief and Green Infrastructure Project

The City wanted to revive the neighborhood and is investing in new road and park improvements in the area. To ensure maximum funding, it was essential that the project be completed within 360 calendar days of Notice to Proceed.

Stratus designed a road dieting plan and infrastructure rehabilitation for a 1.25-mile boulevard, including sidewalk design, water quality enhancements, bicycle lane additions, and streetscape improvements. Green infrastructure was developed to reduce stormwater runoff through the construction of 40 planter boxes along the route. The structures utilized bioretention to capture the first inch of rain in the project right of way. Additionally, the design involved replacing 13,000 linear feet of 12-, 16-, and 30-inch waterline.

Stratus provided surveying and civil design services for this fast-track design-build project. Due to Stratus’ extensive experience in designing roads, water quality enhancements, streetscapes improvements, and permitting experience in the City of Atlanta, the aggressive design schedule was met.

Design required cross coordination with the PATH Foundation as the road intersects with the Ivan Allen trail.
