Miami-Dade County Public Schools employed Stratus to create a highlyefficient and cost-effective new middle school in Downtown Brickell.
Located on a tight, constricted (0.33- acre) site on the northeast corner of the intersection of SW 10 Street and SW 3 Avenue, the new first-of-its-kind mixeduse facility combines integrated housing for teachers with a multi-story middle school (grades 6-8).
The project provides a unique opportunity to address the need for both affordable housing and primary education in Miami’s Brickell / Downtown neighborhood. Miami-Dade County Public Schools commissioned Stratus, the leading architectural firm in South Florida for K-12 projects, as the architect / engineer of record for this high-profile, pioneering project.
With the unprecedented levels of construction that has occurred in Miami’s Brickell area, the need for an additional educational facility was abundantly clear.
The state-of-the-art facility has a capacity of 632-student stations, and features general purpose classrooms (English, Mathematics, and Social Studies), Science Demo Classrooms, Exceptional Student Education (ESE) classrooms, Health Education, Art, Music and Physical Education facilities, a Skills Development Lab, Media Center, Administration offices, Reception Area, Clinic, Conference Room, Food Service, and other support spaces for Textbook Storage, Student and Staff Restrooms and Custodial Areas.
The two levels of Workforce Housing units dedicated for teachers will be independently operated and separated from school functions, complete with its own parking and independent entrances and exits.
